Fountains are an attraction by themselves. Major cities around the world put so much emphasis on their fountains. What makes these fascinating fountains even more dramatic is the use of fountain lights. The constant lights at the Trevi fountain use only one color, but they illuminate the fountain and accentuate all of its sculptures in a warm glow, making it even more stunning. In contrast, the Bellagio fountain show becomes even more amazing to watch at night with the use of multi-colored fountain lights programmed in a sequence that compliment the water movements in time with the accompanying music.

When lights bounce off moving water, it creates a magical effect. Fountain lights can illuminate from below or from above. It highlights the motion of the water and can enhance the mood by the intensity of its glow. While overhead fountain lights accentuate the whole fountain, submersible lights have a greater illuminating effect that makes the water shimmer. The choice to use should compliment the surrounding areas.

When the surrounding areas are well lighted, brighter fountain lights with higher voltage should be used to create a more substantial effect. However, when the fountain is located in an area that has a relaxing ambience, more subdued low-voltage fountain lights is a better choice to enhance the mood.

When choosing which type of fountain lights to get, you need to take into consideration the size of your fountain and its pool or basin. You also have a choice between steady lights or those that have adjustable beam angles. Of course there is also the choice between overhead or submersible lights. Color is also another factor. You can get lights with removable lens covers in a variety of colors. Fountain lights may come in halogen or LED which is more energy efficient and long-lasting.

Or you can get fountain lights that come in the form of a battery-powered floating pool decoration that produces a fountain and an underwater light show by remote control.
